In most established tertiary institutions, research is sine quo non for quality teaching and learning, curriculum development and high-quality approaches in decision making processes. Research in Education is central to knowledge development and is at the core of innovative practices that are relevant to curricular aims and to meeting the needs of both the learners and academic staff.
As the MIE is a degree-awarding institution, it is important to develop and shape a research culture which incorporates, among others, research training, research mentoring and research incentives, which would eventually serve as a framework to guide the MIE in its decisions and actions towards equipping academic staff with the knowledge, skills and attitudes for becoming deep-seated research engaged staff. Following the recommendation of the first quality audit, the Research Unit was set in 2009.
