1) Meet and Greet Activity with On-Campus Rodriguan Students:
On 14th February 2025, the OIIAD organised a Meet and Greet activity to warmly welcome the TDP GP and HEP trainees who started their two-year training at the MIE in January. The activity provided an opportunity for the trainees to connect with fellow colleagues and share their initial experiences in Mauritius. The OIIAD team took note of the challenges that the trainee teachers faced and will ensure appropriate support is provided.
The event was attended by the OIIAD team. Dr Ankiah-Gangadeen, Deputy Director, and Mr. Saraye, former Registrar also graced the event.
2) Rodrigues Training and Career Guidance Expo 2025:
The Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE) participated in the Training and Career Guidance Expo 2025 on March 6th and 7th, organized by the Commission for Vocational Training at the Antoinette Prudence Human Resource Development Centre, Malabar.
The MIE was represented by Dr. Oogarah-Pratap and Mr. Dhunnoo who engaged with prospective teachers, high school students and in-service teachers, offering insights into the institute’s pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes. MIE representatives also addressed questions about employment prospects and career paths in the education sector, emphasizing the growing demand for qualified teachers.
The expo served as an important platform for the MIE to connect with the community, raising awareness of the crucial role of the MIE in the professional development of cadres in the education sector to meet the needs of the evolving educational landscape.
3) Visit to State House for On-Campus Rodriguan Students:
On 25th March, the OIIAD organised a visit to the State House for Rodriguan trainee teachers currently pursuing their teacher education programme at the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE). Trainees from Teacher’s Diploma Programme – General Purpose, Teacher’s Diploma Programme – Holistic Education Programme, and Teacher’s Certificate Programme – Support, accompanied by the OIIAD team and Programme Coordinators took part in this enriching experience.
A key highlight was meeting the President of Mauritius, who offered valuable insights and encouragement, deepening the trainees’ understanding of leadership, governance, and their future role in education. The group also enjoyed a guided tour of the State House, exploring its historic architecture and cultural heritage.
This visit fostered meaningful peer interactions, allowing trainees to exchange ideas and strengthen their connections. It was an inspiring and memorable experience, contributing to the professional development of the trainees as future educators.
4) Retirement of Dr Putchay:
The OIIAD expresses its sincere gratitude to Dr Putchay upon his retirement. As Assistant Head, his leadership and dedication, particularly in Francophonie-related matters, have been instrumental. We thank him for his invaluable service and wish him a joyful and fulfilling retirement.
