3rd Edition of the Mathematics in Arts & Nature Video Competition 2025
The Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE) successfully hosted the 3rd Edition of the Mathematics in Arts & Nature Video Competition for secondary schools, with the Prize Giving Ceremony held on 3 September 2025 at the Frank Richard Lecture Theatre. The event was graced by the Honourable Dr. Avinash Ramtohul, Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation. Other distinguished attendees included the Chairperson, MIE Council, the Director of MES, and senior officials from the Ministry of Education and PSEA
The competition, organised by the Mathematics Education Department, provided students from Grades 7–9 and Grades 10–13 with an opportunity to showcase their creativity and teamwork while exploring the role of mathematics in art, culture, and the natural world. A total of 22 schools participated in this year’s edition, reflecting the growing success and reach of the initiative.

- Winning Teacher Grades 10-13: “This competition gave me the opportunity to show them how Mathematics is connected to Arts and Nature. Today, they do not see mathematics as numbers only, but as a tool to explore and appreciate the world around them.”

Grades 10–13
- Winner: Dunputh Lallah State Secondary School
- Runner-Up: Mahatma Gandhi Institute Secondary School
- Special Prize: Soondur Munrakhan College
Winners received Certificates of Achievement, Shields and cash prizes (Rs 5,000 for Winners, Rs 3,000 for Runners-Up, and Rs 2,000 for Special Prizes). All other participants received Certificates of Participation in recognition of their efforts.

Looking Ahead
The MIE Director has challenged the department to further scale up the competition, with a target of 44 entries for 2026. This will build on the success of this year’s edition and provide even more learners with opportunities to link mathematics with creativity, teamwork and digital skills.
