Setting up a Centre for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education as a Consortium of Public Private Universities
A CELT brings together people, resources and institution in a shared effort to raise the profile of teaching in HE moving it away from a craft and common sense perspective. It aims at synthesizing the efforts of both public and private institutions, policy makers, students and academics to influence the quality of teaching, enhance the learning experience and improve HE outcomes. Synergistically, these constituent aims increase the public confidence in HE allowing it to fully play out its function of economic and social revitalization.
The vision of the Centre is to enhance the quality of students’ learning experience in Mauritian HE through enhancement of its curricular and pedagogical practices.
Its mission is to professionalise teaching in Higher Education and contribute to the development of high quality curricular practices.
The objectives of the Centre are thus to:
- Encourage and offer initial opportunities in HE through award courses at partnering institutions to credential and incentivize university lecturers
- Develop and service Continuous Professional Learning award and non award courses as per the needs of the HE system or the context specific needs of institutions
- Offer platforms and forums to share and extend best practices
- Network with international scholars and partners to provide internationally benchmarked CPD
- Develop and extend a scholarship of teaching and learning within the local higher education contexts
- Organise scholarly events to enable faculty to enhance their knowledge and skills of HE policies and practices
- Develop organizational and faculty expertise in using and teaching with ICT
- Assist organizations in setting up their own office for teaching and learning in HE.
